FAQ

Here are some answers to the most common questions our customers ask us.  Please check this page often for updates!
Why is the resume I am sending out getting no response from potential employers?

In a down job market, more people are applying to less job openings.  HR managers and recruiters get inundated with resumes the minute they post an ad.  Because it is overwhelming to receive so many responses, only the most well-written resumes get much attention.

Why is writing a resume so difficult?

Writing a resume is difficult because it is very personal and when something is personal, all of us have a hard time stepping back and looking at it objectively.  Additionally, there is a lot of contradictory information about what the best type of resume looks like, so people get easily confused.

Several recruiters or potential employers have told me that my resume is too "skippy."  What does this mean and how can I fix it?

When someone calls your resume "skippy," they usually mean that it looks like you have hopped around from job to job without staying with any one employer for very long.  This turns employers off because they spend time, energy and money trying to find and train the right person and they want that person to stay with their company for longer than a few months.  There are legitimate and ethical ways to make your resume look more cohesive and to explain multiple job changes.  Our company can help you with that.

I have been self-employed and doing contract work in different fields for a number of years, but now I want to get back into the workforce with a full-time employer.  Can you help me turn this type of work history into a professional resume geared towards the type of job that I want to get?

Yes, 99 out of 100 times, we can do this!

It's okay to fib a little on my resume, isn't it?  Everybody does that, right?

You never want to knowingly be dishonest on your resume.  Take our word for it - you will get caught!  That said, most people who use a professional resume writer have no need to make things up.  We can almost always present your experience, education and work history in an impressive manner that seems naturally geared towards the position you are seeking.

How can you offer a no questions asked money back guarantee?  Aren't you afraid that people will have you prepare and send them their resume and then demand their money back after you have done all that work?

In 15 years of business, no one has ever done this.  Our customers are delighted with how great we make their resumes look.

Is it true that a resume should fit on one page?

No.  While it's true that a resume should be a concise summary of credentials and experience, the "one-page-only" factoid fell out of vogue long ago.  Depending on the resume, two or even three pages is acceptable.

You only get one chance to make a first impression.  Make yours matter!
